The last two days in Asolo were wonderful. We had a guide familiar with the region take us to the prosecco vineyards, two mills (an ancient and modern family owned grain mill), and an ancient abbey whose monks brought the region the skills to make wool textiles. The columns were chisled out of rock. It is humbling to touch the marks that a stone mason made in the 12th century.
On our last day in Asolo we hiked up to Rocco di Asolo, an immense fortress built in the 12th century. Afterwards we hiked back down to the villiage of Asolo for an espresso americano (espresso diluted to taste with boiling water).
Such a beautiful (molto bella!) sunny day. It was the day of the antique market in Asolo. We enjoyed the hum of families enjoying the piazza, cafes, shopping and walking their (cani) dogs.
We then visited the shops and antique dealers in the piazza. Sue bought a beautiful sweater to help keep her warm in the mornings. Eric scoped out photo compositions for the late afternoon.
